| Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program | |
The primary purpose of this program is to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the peoples of other countries through educational exchange. Participants are expected to share their newly gained cross-cultural understanding with students, colleagues, members of civic and professional organizations and other interested citizens. The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program is one of seven Fulbright programs started in the years following World War II at the inspiration of Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright. The program, currently administered by the United States Information Agency (USIA), was designed to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries throughout the world through educational exchange. Each year over 200 elementary to post-secondary level American teachers exchange places with teachers from more than 30 countries around the world. Additionally, 25-30 American teachers participate in summer seminars in Europe through the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program. Three types of opportunities are available through this program.
