Welcome to the Lifelong Learning Section of the Oklahoma State Department of Education. The Lifelong Learning Section works statewide with Adult Learning Centers, and the Department of Corrections, to help adults improve their skills and meet their personal and academic goals.
The Lifelong Learning Section has two areas of responsibility:
- Implementation of Title II of the Workforce Investment Act, the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act. Under the guidelines of this law, Adult Learning Centers, and the Department of Corrections, have been funded to provide educational services for adults below the collegiate level. Examples include:
- GED Preparation
- Literacy and basic skill instruction
- Life skills and coping skills
- English as a second language
- Job readiness
- Workplace literacy and training
- Family Literacy
- Supporting adults with learning disabilities
- Classes for clients of the Department of Human Services
- Supervision of Oklahoma’s GED Testing Centers and issuance of all official GED documents including transcripts and score reports.
The Lifelong Learning Department also provides ongoing professional development and specialized training for adult educators and GED examiners throughout the state.
