State Superintendent Sandy Garrett congratulates Teacher of the Year Brian Grimm. The Teacher of the Year ceremony in Carriage Hall at the State Fair of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City was attended by hundreds of educators, supporters of education, friends and relatives.

The State Fair Board also provides the $5,000 Edward C. Joullian III Scholarship to a student from the Oklahoma Teacher of the Year's school district. Likewise, in support of the program, the state Legislature in 1997 established the Oklahoma Ambassador of Teaching position. The law appropriates money to provide a full-time teacher for the classroom while the Teacher of the Year travels to speaking engagements, in- and out-of-state.
